How to Compare Cash Back Credit Card Offers
Everyone wants to get their hands on a cash back credit card. After all, it
basically gives you money for spending money. If you’re spending that money
anyway, this could mean a significant savings on your monthly purchases.
However, not all cash back credit cards are the same. Trying to determine which
one is the right one can be difficult.
Here is how to compare cash back credit card offers in order to select the
card that’s going to give the best in return for its use:
• Eliminate all credit card offers that come with an annual fee. There
are good cards out there that aren’t going to charge you just for having them so
save your money and skip these card offers.
• Create a spreadsheet
on your computer to compare all of the offers that you are considering. This
will allow you to see the pros and cons of each card clearly in order to be able
to make the best decision in the end.
• Review the interest rate on
the cards. Before you even consider the benefits of the card, you need to look
at what it’s going to cost to use it. A high interest rate on any card is a red
flag that it might not be the best one.
• Look at the rate of cash
back. There’s going to be a straightforward cash back percentage on many credit
cards (often one or two percent). However, a lot of cards will have different
rates for different purchases. For example, some cards give three percent cash
back on gas purchases but one percent on other purchases. Other cards will
automatically give you a higher percentage back in the places that you shop at
most often. Include the different cash back rates on your spreadsheet. When
comparing them, consider what types of expenses you most often put on credit
cards.
• Review the terms of how cash back is applied. Some credit
cards really do send you a check that you can cash in and spend as you please.
Other credit cards give you credit back towards your bill. Still other cards
will give you higher points if you shop at their online rewards store or will
offer you gift cards for the value of your cash. Consider what types of rewards
you want from your cash back program and choose a card that reflects this
choice.
Cash back credit cards provide a great opportunity for consumers to get
something in return for the spending that they are already doing. However,
getting the most out of them requires that the consumer look carefully at the
pros and cons of their card offers in order to choose the one that’s going to
give the most back.
